THE NEW TESTAMENT ALSO HAS ITS FAIR SHARE OF CRAZY, AND JESUS EXHIBITED SOME REALLY STRANGE BEHAVIORS HIMSELF.
The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them." He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
-Matthew 5: 12-13
Even if a Christian was successful at ignoring what is in the Old Testament, a close look at Jesus shows that he often exhibited some strange behaviors to prove his point. Jesus was also somewhat of a narcissist at times, telling his followers that no one could get to Heaven except through him. Additionally, Jesus often invoked odd solutions to petty problems to prove an unrelated point. For example, instead of making an empty fig tree bear fruit after he discovered it didn’t have any figs, he cursed it to wither and die. Instead of casting demons out of men and sending them to Hell, he transferred the demons’ spirits into pigs and then drowned the pigs. Jesus’ bizarre behavior in the New Testament is reminiscent of the absurd passages in the Old Testament.
Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.
